All five subway lines will go on strike on Thursday, the UTA train and subway drivers union announced, to protest against the lack of security caused by the withdrawal of police officers from all stations that will start on March 1st.
“The strike will take place for an undetermined period of time due to the insecurity that there will be because on March 1st police officers will no longer guard the stations,” press representative Mario Caligari said.
Meanwhile, UTA head Roberto Fernández warned that “the subway system is about to explode and the rolling stock is obsolete due to lack of investment.
Security Minister Nilda Garré several weeks ago announced that Federal Police officers would no longer guard subway stations, as the subway service transfer between the National and City Government takes place.
