Argentina’s January Fiscal Deficit Hit ARS2.81 Billion

BUENOS AIRES (Dow Jones)–Argentina posted a primary surplus of 622 million pesos ($143 million) in January but had a fiscal deficit totaling ARS2.81 billion, its Economy Ministry said Wednesday.

Argentina had a primary surplus of ARS4.92 billion last year but ran a fiscal deficit of ARS30.66 billion.

To improve its finances, the government has begun eliminating costly water, gas, electricity and public transportation subsidies for wealthy residents of the capital Buenos Aires and some industries.
