The leaders of five major national teachers’ unions are to meet with Government ministers this afternoon, in order to discuss the new basic wage floor for school teachers this year. The meeting is planned to take place at the Education Ministry at 5.30 pm, led by Education Minister Alberto Sileoni.
Sileoni is to lead the meeting which will also include the presence of the major education representatives from the government.
The teachers unions that are to attend include: UTE-CTERA, SADOP, AMET, UDA and CEA.
Last week, the five mentioned unions agreed to demand a wage increase of 28 percent in the national teachers’ union and to take the basic monthly wage up from 2,340 pesos to 3,000 pesos.
The meeting is to take place at the Sarmiento Palace, along Pizzurno 935 in the city of Buenos Aires.
In addition, a meeting also led by the Education Minister in which teaching courses was to be discussed, previously announced for this afternoon, was cancelled.
This was to be the first meeting of the year to be held by the head Education directors and the Federal Board, including the presence of the director of the National Institute for Teacher Training (INFD), Verónica Piovani.
It was reported that Sileoni was to make new announcements over teacher training courses during the meeting. A new date for the talks was not disclosed.
