Brazil is willing to keep its commitment to Cuba and maintain its economic cooperation with the island, Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff said on Tuesday during a two-day visit to Cuba in which she will be focused on trade.
“I believe that Brazil’s greatest contribution to Cuba is helping it during its entire economic process,” she said during the first part of her visit.
Rousseff was joined by Brazilian Foreign Minister Antonio Patriota. After laying a garland at a memorial dedicated to José Martí, a Cuban National hero, Rousseff told reporters that her government is committed to «helping the Cuban people update their country’s economic model.»
According to news agencies, she also announced the recent approval of funds to facilitate the purchase of equipment, machinery and tractors to boost agricultural production in Cuba.
Rousseff’s official visit is scheduled to end tomorrow and it includes a meeting with Cuban President Raul Castro and retired leader Fidel Castro.
After her visit, Rousseff will travel to Haiti, where Brazilian troops are actively leading the UN peacekeeping force.
