Security Minister Nilda Garré said that the 40 of the 250 Federal Police officers that guard subway stations will be withdrawn on February 1st and the transfer to City authorities will be official on March 1st, “just like we agreed upon with City Security Minister Guillermo Montenegro in a January 20th meeting.”
She also confirmed that the 250 police officers who provide regular and additional services in the subway stations will be part of the new Train alert programme, a new surveillance system on platforms, bus and train stations with high definition cameras that will work under the Security Ministry.
Garré stressed the fact that “we were never inflexible, because facing the City’s request to postpone the withdrawal of Federal Police officers of subway stations, we found a reasonable solution.”
“On January 15th we decided to transfer the subway security in a progressive way, and that was a decision minister Montenegro was aware of. On January 20th we reached an agreement in a meeting with Rául Garre, Cabinet Chief of the City’s Security Ministry.”
“It was an agreement between government officials, that is why the media spreading of an information Montenegro was already aware of calls my attention,” Garré.
The Security Minister added that police officers that guard subway stations will be withdrawn on February 1st, and the remaining 210 officers will be transferred on March 1st.
“This is a logical consequence of the subway administration transfer from the National Government to the City and the same criteria is used in other circumstances.”
