Argentine Industrial Union (UIA) head José Ignacio de Mendiguren and the head of the AFIP tax revenue agency, Ricardo Etchegaray, met to discuss the new Advanced Sworn Statement on Imports, which imposes a new series of trade barriers and comes into effect on February 1st.
The meeting took place in the AFIP headquarters and lasted close to an hour, according to sources.
As the meeting ended the UIA released a statement stressing on “the importance of an agile and transparent implementation of the new system, considering its potential impact on industrial production, investments and the creation of new jobs” that the measure will bring.
Thus, during the meeting “it was decided that both institutions will have a continuous dialogue in order to monitor the activity levels of different sectors of the national industry.”

The meeting took place after Etchegaray questioned Mendiguren for requesting the postponement of the effective date of the measure- February 1st – through media outlets.
“De Mendiguren knows me personally. It wasn’t necessary to send a letter to all the media outlets. If he calls my office, he knows how the issue is developing,” Etchegaray said.
Meanwhile, the UIA leader said before the meeting that the explanations that Etchegaray gave to the Customs Committee are “private” and said he would tell Etchegaray about «a few concerns» regarding the new measure, which was published in the Official Gazette this week.
The official resolution created the single window for advanced sworn statement on imports.
De Mendiguren added that if the new advanced sworn statement on imports measure «actually works, that is if it gives more predictability and simplicity because it will be necessary to go to a single place, it will be better.”
