Yahuar to meet with Liaison Board over drought crisis

Agriculture Minister Norberto Yahuar will meet with representatives of the Liaison Board on Thursday, in what will be the third meeting of the Farming Emergency Committee, which was created to analyze the current drought affecting the country.

The meeting is expected to take place in the offices of the Agriculture Ministry, only a few hours away from the La Rioja government’s announcement that it was declaring a state of emergency in the farming sector due to the lack of rain.

So far, Eduardo Buzzi from the Argentine Agrarian Federation (FAA), Hugo Biolcati from the Rural Society, Coninagro’s Carlos Garetto, and Rubén Ferrero from the Argentine Rural Confederations, have all confirmed their attendance.

There will also be present officials from the Interior and Economy ministries, the AFIP, the National Weather Forecast Service, the Banco Nacion, the Central Bank and representatives from Entre Ríos, Buenos Aires, San Juan, Córdoba and Santa Fe.

The meeting is expected to take place only 24 hours after La Rioja announced it would join the list of provinces that have declared to be in state of emergency because of the extreme drought affecting large portions of the country.
