Acting President Amado Boudou left his apartment in Puerto Madero a few minutes after 9 am and headed towards the Government House in an official vehicle in order to begin his replacement of President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner for the next 20 days while she recovers from a thyroid operation.
Since he failed to warn the Government House officials that he was heading there in the morning, he missed the traditional presidential salute by the acting official who wishes the President a good morning and lets him no that there are no news to be communicated.
According to Article 88 of the National Constitution, whenever the Vice-President becomes acting President, he has the same responsibilities and attirbutions in office as a sitting President.
Boudou is expected to keep a low profile during Fernández de Kirchner’s recovery and will meet with Government officials whenever he is needed to make important decisions, as long as the Head of State is in no condition to make the decision herself.
Cabinet Chief Juan Abal Medina and Interior Minister Florencio Randazzo are also present in the Government House.
The President’s general secretary and Oscar Parrili and the presidential spokesman Alfredo Scocimarro arrived at the Austral Hospital along with the President a few minutes after 7 am.
This morning, Boudou left the Government House 40 minutes after his arrival and headed towards the Banco Nacion in order to meet with Economy Minister Hernán Lorenzino.
According to sources, they will both be following the markets’ reaction to the her intervention by strict orders of the President.
