Newly appointed Trade Undersecretary, Paula Español.
The Government appointed economist Paula Español as the new Trade Undersecretary, to replace Iván Heyn following his sudden death last month, officials reported.
The decision was made in light of the sudden death of Trade Undersecretary Iván Heyn, an episode that remains unexplained after he was found hanged last month in a hotel room.
The appointment was approved by President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, and was today published in the Official Gazette with the additional signatures of the new Cabinet Chief, Juan Abal Medina and Economy Minister, Hernán Lorenzino.
Español will take on the role that was left vacant after the sudden and surprising death of Heyn on December 20 in Montevideo, where the Mercosur Summit was taking place.
The death of the young government member, who formed a part of the Kirchnerite activist group La Cámpora, remains under investigation by the Judiciary.
Español obtained a degree in Economy from the University of Buenos Aires and her doctorate in Economy from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes of Social Sciences in Paris.
Before being given her new position, Español held the position of director of the Centre of Studies for Production (CEP), an entity that forms part of the Industry and Commerce Ministry.
In addition, the member of government is the vice president of the Economy Association for Argentina’s Development (AEDA), of which Heyn also belonged to.
