Barletta says Radicals should look for answers ‘within their party’

UCR leader Mario Barletta.
As elements within the UCR continue to voice their criticism towards the Radicals, the party’s leader, Mario Barletta assured that even though “they are looking to build a front for the 2013 midterm elections,” the UCR must first “look for answers within itself.”
Barletta said that the several UCR members who had approached the Socialist party or Mauricio Macri’s PRO for the creation of a broad front are “rushing into things” and said the reason why they are doing so is because “we’re not comfortable with ourselves.”
“The Radical party has to look within itself, to strengthen and recover itself through its own identity, and then move on to the next stage, which is the creation of a broad front with other political parties,” he stated.
While being interviewed on a live radio show, the former Santa Fe mayor said that he believes that some Radicals are considering turning to other parties because «they are not thinking of their own party right now.»
“We need to strengthen ourselves. And this is a hard task because we need to make Radicals fall in love with our party again.”
Barletta’s message comes after several dissidents within the Radical party such as Federico Storani and Leopoldo Moreau announced they would be asking to bring forward the date of the next Radical National Convention, where among fears of a potential alliance with the PRO party, the UCR is expected to define its ideological and political profile.
