Federico Pellegrino one of the judges in of a Reconciliatory court warned the Tribunal for Penal Impugnation (TIP) that Marcelo Tomaselli – the rapist who recently killed his wife at the La Pampa province and was granted pardon by the court – of a possible violent situation, he told a local television channel today.
“I voted against the reconciliation because I felt another violent situation could emerge. What no one predicted was that it will be so serious and so fast, only seven days after we set him free,” the magistrate told the press.
The case has caused outrage in the population after it was found that before marrying the victim, the man had raped her and gone to jail, but was pardoned by the woman who later agreed to become his wife.
“Carla (nineteen year-old Carla Figueroa) asked for the pardon to be granted because she had a little kid and she didn’t want him to suffer as she did, but we couldn’t see a viable way to release him” Pellegrino told.
“We took a psychological report into consideration. The pardon is an exception granted with the full consent of the victim,” he stressed.
