Argentine Davis Cup team players Juan Martin Del Potro (L), Juan Monaco (C) and David Nalbandian (R) chat during the David Cup final Draw at Lope de Vega theater in Sevilla on December 1, 2011, ahead of the final matches against Spain.
Tennis players Juan Martín Del Potro, David Nalbandian and Juan Mónaco, three of the members of the team representing Argentina in the Davis Cup, were all sent to take a routine drug test today, before the final matches against Spain which take place between tomorrow and Sunday.
With regard to the test, even though regulations suggest that it can be performed at any moment, the timing was questioned, as the three Argentines were woken up at 6.45am to take it, on the day they were supposed to be resting before tomorrow’s start of the finals.
“I thought that the timing of the test was a little out of place, today was supposed to be a day of rest. It’s clear that they could have waited or simply chosen another time,” said the Argentine captain Modesto “Tito” Vásquez.
Meanwhile, Del Potro stated, “it’s just the rules of the game, I’d prefer not to talk about it,” whilst being questioned by press.
