BUENOS AIRES (Dow Jones)–Consumer confidence fell in November from the previous month, as fewer Argentines indicated they were likely to buy durable goods such as cars.
The consumer confidence index compiled by Torcuato di Tella University, or UTDT, fell 1.7% from October but was still up 2.4% from a year earlier, the university reported Wednesday.
The number of people who said they planned to buy goods such as cars, houses or home appliances fell 6%.
Individuals expressed only slightly less confidence about the country’s overall macroeconomic situation while they were a bit more optimistic about their personal financial situation.
Consumer confidence fell 5.8% for wealthier people but rose about 2% for lower income Argentines, according to the survey.
UTDT said the confidence index is now at 56.7 points, up from 57.7 the previous month. It was 55.4 points a year earlier.
The survey was conducted from November 4 through November 14 on 1209 people. It has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
