CC appoints Pérez amid crisis

In the absence of former presidential candidate Elisa Carrió and National Deputy Patricia Bullrich, the Civic Coalition (CC) yesterday appointed National Deputy Adrián Pérez as the party’s new secretary-general, replacing Carlos López Iglesias and called on a “restructuring” of the embattled party.

Following a disastrous result in the October 23 general elections where the CC picked up a mere 1.8 percent of the presidential vote, 82 members gathered yesterday to analyze what went wrong with their campaign and admitted the extent of the “electoral failure.”

The party drew up a mission statement in which it lent its full support to Carrió who it described as an “honest, intelligent and brave political leader” that “founded a way of practicing politics, breaking away with traditional and conservative ways.”

Despite the recent plunge in political support, the CC remained optimistic yesterday and vowed to continue the “fight” in light of its ongoing “deep crisis.”

In terms of practical steps, the members voted to move forward with the “necessary restructuring of the party,” including “a drive toward a more dynamic” party leadership.
