City Gov’t deems subway admin transfer in two weeks, ‘impossible’

City Treasury Minister Néstor Grindetti assured that “it’s impossible” to transfer the subway administration to Mayor Mauricio Macri’s Government “in two weeks” as proposed by the national Government.

“We want to manage the subway. We are convinced that it is for the best, because it will contribute to the City’s autonomy. But this is certainly complex transfer, with technical, legal, financial and economic aspects,” Grindetti stated.

“This is impossible to carry out in two weeks. We have to analyze the contract, define the investment and the purchase of trains,” among other issues.

Thus, the City administration has started to minimize the possibility of accepting the Government’s offer of transferring the subway management to the City starting December 1st, and with 50 percent of the current subsidies, approximately 29 million pesos.

Macri’s administration vowed to answer on Monday, and regarding that subject Grindetti said that “we will probably talk about deadlines, because I see it quite difficult. We are analyzing our answer,” he added.

“We can’t analyze the fare, for instance, if it not within the framework of the general fares of transport. And the subsidies must be evaluated as well, because the City’s budget doesn’t take it into account,” Grindetti said
