The Lower House moved forward with the Gender Identity Law, which will allow citizens to officially change their name and gender on their National Identity Card (DNI) without having a court permit or presenting their medical studies.
The bill, which is supported by several gay, lesbian and transgender organizations, was cleared for debate by a majority during a plenary meeting of the General Legislation and Justice committee, which means it could be discussed on the floor before year’s end.
The news were celebrate by lawmakers in favor of the several organizations that had waited outside while the bill was discussed.
