Argentine Industrial Union head José Ignacio De Mendiguren
Upon his return from the G20 Summit in Cannes, where he accompanied the official government committee, Argentine Industrial Union head José Ignacio de Mendiguren said that the Government’s decision to lift subsidies on several public services “if done in the right way, it won’t necessarily be reflected in prices. If subsidies aren’t permanent, they must by reassigned at some point,” he stated.
De Mendiguren also referred to the Greek crisis. “Unlike in other years, half of the Summit was absorbed by the Greek crisis, everybody was expecting to see the confident vote passed. There was sense of nervousness, but the topics being debated we have already experienced in the past,” he added.
The UIA head highlighted the President’s speech, deemed it “very frank, very direct,” and said: “she talked to them about chapter 21 and they were reading the prologue. She stressed the fact that if the social crisis expands, democracy is at risk, because people begin not to value it.
“Everybody discussed the amount of the rescue funds but not how to start growing again. Rescuing is important, but it must be accompanied with policies that allow growth, that are the recipe to get over the crisis,” he concluded.
