Former presidential candidate Ricardo Alfonsín said on Monday that despite yesterday’s defeat, the UCR “managed to retain the votes” and assured that he would work with the younger Radicals in order to “modernize and renovate” the party.
“Despite the great difficulties we went through, we retained the votes against all odds,” he stated.
“I want to thank the 2.3 million Argentines who voted for us and the values we represent,” Alfonsín added.
Contacting his followers via Twitter, the Radical leader thanked “the younger followers who joined him in the campaign.”
“Let’s honour our place as the second largest party in Congress with responsibility and without giving up on our convictions. I remain committed to work to for the country of respect, solidarity, education and culture of labour,” the Radical said.
Alfonsín finished the presidential race in third place after obtaining an 11.15 percent of the votes.
