Activists commemorate Mariano Ferreyra’s death

Human Rights organizations and entities marched from Congress to Plaza de Mayo to commemorate the first anniversary of the murder of Workers Party activist Mariano Ferreyra, who was shot after clashes between outsourced Roca train line workers.

The march began shortly after 5.30 pm, in the intersection of Avenida de Mayo and Paraná street, where protesters demanded “trial, conviction and life sentence for Pedraza and the gang that murdered Mariano Ferreyra and injured Elsa Rodríguez and other comrades.”

“Police officers should be tried for their responsibilities, that of necessary participants in a homicide. Popular demonstrations made it possible to jail Pedraza and the gang that killed Ferreyra under his orders. But a few months away from the oral trial the police officers who cleared the area to allow the gang to act remain free and will be tried for a misdeamenor, and they are backed by the Security Ministry,” the CTA Argentine Workers Central, FUBA University Federation of Buenos Aires, the Worker Party and the CCC, stated in a press release.

Ferreyra was murdered on October 20th, 2010 in the City neighbourhood of Barracas, after the group he was a part of was attacked.

As a result of the probe, former Metropolitan Police superintendent Hugo Lompizano was arrested, while Railway Union head José Pedraza was indicted as the mastermind of the crime and remains in custody since February.
