Caballero exacts revenge on Barros in Argentina

Celestino Caballero gained a sweet revenge on Jonathan Victor Barros on his home soil after suffering a controversial split decision loss to ‘Yoni’ in July.

The 35 year-old former unified super-bantamweight champion took a wide points decision in Buenos Aires to take the WBA featherweight title and claim his third career world title.

‘Pelenchin’ was in full control for the vast majority of the fight and had Barros, 27, in real trouble in the eleventh but the Argentinan held on with the judges giving the bout to the Panamanian 118-111 and 116-112 (twice).

On the undercard, former WBO cruiserweight title challenger Hugo Gary, who lost out to title holder Marco Huck in his last bout, continued his losing form by going down via stoppage to the unfancied Cesar Crenz.

Crenz, 31, looked on top for most of the bout and in the fifth, hit 30 year-old Garay with a flurry of unanswered shots and the referee stepped in to confirm Garay’s seventh career loss in 41.
