‘If you’re planning on punishing me, please just punish me alone,’ Carrió asks voters

Civic Coalition presidential candidate Elisa Carrió asked the electorate to vote for her party’s candidates in the coming presidential elections, adding that “if the people are planning on punishing her,” they should “punish her alone.»

“If you’re planning on punishing me, just punish me alone. Not my national lawmakers, mayors and councilmen who deserve to be voted for because they showed some exemplary nature,” she said.

Carrió made these statements as she commented on her disappointing performance in the August 14th. elections, where she obtained little over 3 percent of the votes.

Joined by the Buenos Aires province gubernatorial candidate, Juan Carlos Morán, and La Plata mayoral candidates Javier Mor Roig, she assured that “she wasn’t there to ask people to vote for her, but for the Civic Coalition candidates.”

“We have to respect Cristina’s victory,” she said, although she stressed on the need to “put a limit to her power, because if it’s absolute, then Argentina’s freedom is at stake.”

The lawmaker from Chaco assured that “there was no fraud” during the primary elections.

“Political ads were clear and everyone had money to run them,” she explained.

“It’s simple and clear, they didn’t vote for us. But we’re not going to change because of that. We’re coherent. I’d rather lose an election and not fool my people,” Carrió said.

She also expressed her support for the new primary elections system because “they are good for democracy,” and assured that her poor performance during the election “had nothing to do with it.”
