CGT blasts railway union delegate arrest

The Central Labour Confederation rejected the detention of the Sarmiento train line union delegates and warned “there is a wave against union activities” and that “the speediness with which the Judiciary acts upon union leaders is remarkable.”

The umbrella union led by Hugo Moyano released a statement saying that “union leaders are only authorities sent to jail. “speediness with which the Judiciary acts upon union leaders regardless their political stance or career is remarkable.”

“The CGT rejects the detention of the railway delegates and warns that the wave against labour unions moves forward no matter the political leaning of those persecuted,” the statement added.

“The persecution of union leaders is carried out in a country in which drug dealers, baby stealers, child molesters, those who looted Argentina, spy on their neighbours, weapon traffic, the corrupt and those who have defrauded the State seem to be have more luck and are regarded differently, even those convicted.”

“We suspect this is part of a campaign aimed to demonize union activities and thus retrict the worker’s rights. We reiterate our claim of freedom for all those detained for their union activities, and that they receive, probes notwithstanding, the same presumption of innocence that the powerful have,” the statement concludes.
