Buenos Aires City Mayor, Mauricio Macri, claimed this morning “an attitude of greatness” from the government of President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner in order to reopen dialogue with the City, arguing that in the last four years the relationship was a “waste of energy.”
Macri, also emphasized that he was expecting “a different kind of relationship with the Government’s House”, but praised the telephone conversation he had with the President after Augusts’ Primary election as the Mayor considered it a “starting point.”
Likewise, the business tycoon assured that the government “will miss a great opportunity in case they refuse to talk”, and added, “They have to understand votes are not something of their property, time runs fast and they being in power is just circumstantial.”
Furthermore, Macri said that he now looks forward to “another type of proposal with the national government as for the moment all we have is a good telephone relationship.”
The Mayor also emphasized that it is necessary to “discuss what our place in the world is, and what kind of relationship we must build with neighbours such as Brazil or Chile”, and added, “We have to focus on solving the people’s everyday problems by first understanding that we are just political rivals, not enemies. Hence, we need to lower the level of aggression.”
