CFK arrives in NYC, meets businessmen

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner received the Vice-President of Exxon Mobil Corporation, Mark Albert, and the Public Affairs director of the global company, Tomas Hess, who announced to the Head of State an investment programme of non-conventional gas in Argentina.

According to a report of the US Energy Department, the country the third non-conventional gas reserve in the world, after the United States and China.

Earlier, the president received the global CEO of the AES, Andres Gluski, who was accompanied by the head of the Latin American and African area of the company, Andrew Vassey.

AES is one of the most important energy company in the US, it is present in 28 countries and generates 12 percent of Argentina’s electricity.

Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman and Planning Minister Julio De Vido accompanied Fernández de Kirchner in both of her meetings.

The president arrived in New York City to attend the annual UN’s General Assembly. The Head of State is to present new claims against the UK and Iran over Malvinas sovereignty and the AMIA case respectively.

In New York, Fernández de Kirchner was welcomed by the Foreign Minister.

Regarding tomorrow’s speech before the assembly, close sources to Fernández de Kirchner indicated that the leader is expected to set new claims against the United Kingdom over the sovereignty of the Malvinas, Georgia, and Southern Sandwich islands in another attempt to seek for the UN to middle in the claim over the South Atlantic islands.

Likewise, Fernández de Kirchner will address new claims on Iran, as the Argentina government looks for the judicial extradition of eight former Iran officials accused for the terrorist attack to the AMIA Jewish Community Centre in Buenos Aires in 1994.

The Argentine leader is also in company of Legal and Technical Secretary Carlo Zannini, Presidential Spokesman Alfredo Scoccimarro, Neuquén’s Senator Marcelo Fuentes, Mendoza’s gubernatorial candidate Francisco Pérez and her daughter Florencia Kirchner.
