President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner said that “it would be good to reconsider trial by juries” and said that the Civil Code should be updated, because she considers judges are judging with regulations and proceedings from the Roman law era.
“It would be good to start reconsidering trial by jury,” Fernández de Kirchner said while announcing the launch of website INFOJUS in the Government House.
The President considered that the Civil Code written by Vélez Sarsfield and copied from the French version, which was written during Napoleon Bonaparte’s time and in turn based on Roman law, is outdated.
“One might have better magistrates, but the regulations should be adapted,” Fernández de Kirchner said in relaxed, even tones. It was her first televised address after her official visit to France, in which she met with French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
