“Excellent, excellent,” was CGT leader Hugo’s Moyano reply when asked by ámbito.com how the relationship between the umbrella union and President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner is going. He quickly stressed that the increase of the universal child allowance was one of the CGT’s most important claims, and refused to refer to the possibility of increasing the income tax floor.
Nonetheless, Argentine Workers Union leader Hugo Yasky predicted that the increase of the income tax floor “is an imminent announcement” and recalled that the issue was discussed in last week’s Minimum Wage Council. “Hopefully the raising of the income tax floor will stand between 20 and 25 percent, that would be a reasonable figure, because it’s the average increase in the salaries. However, just like the increase in the universal child allowance and the family allowance, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner will decide when and how the announcement will be made.
According to CGT sources, the labour union leaders were told early today that they had to assist to a rally in the Government House. Sources close to Moyano said that the increase in the universal child allowance, which raised the monthly payment to 270 pesos per child, was one of the union leader’s concrete requests and that the Government agreed to it. Government House insiders say that the “social policy” is essential in the Kirchnerite plan.
During her speech, Fernández de Kirchner said that “one of the fundamental aims of the 2003 government plan is social inclusion. One of the pillars of this inclusion process that is the Universal child allowance,” the President stated, stressing that the merit belongs to her administration.
“The fact that we recovered the workers’ resources back in to the public sector and that allowed us to implement this measure in November 2009 has had an impressive impact in our society,” she added.
Union leaders not only opposed to private pension administrators, but also created their own pension funds administrators.
