The National Electoral Board ruled that those City citizens that didn’t vote in the August 14th primaries will not be prevented from voting in the October 23rd general elections, thus overturning judge María Servini de Cubría’s ruling.
Earlier, judge María Romilda Servini de Cubría had rules that those City citizens that didn’t comply with the duty of voting in the open, simultaneous, mandatory primaries without a proper justification, wouldn’t be able to vote in the October 23rd presidential elections.
However, the National Electoral Board overturned Servini de Cubría’s ruling, on grounds that “no legal disposition determines that the voter that didn’t vote in the primaries, even without a proper justification, can be deprived of their right to vote in the October 23rd general elections.”
“Our National Constitution states that vote is ‘universal, secret, equal and mandatory,’” the National Electoral Board said in a press release.
