Iran hopes to appoint ambassador in Buenos Aires ‘in near future’

Iranian deputy Foreign Minister Ali Ahani expressed his wishes that his country will be able to appoint a new ambassador in Buenos Aires in the near future.

Ahani also told Brazilian newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo that he hopes that the “misunderstandings” between Argentina and Iran over the 1994 bombing of AMIA Jewish Community centre, in which 85 people died and over 300 were injured, are over.

Argentina has repeatedly asked international law enforcement agencies to detain current Iranian defence Minister Ahmad Vahidi for allegedly being the mastermind of the bombing, Argentina’s deadliest terrorist attack.

Vahidi visited Bolivia in June and was forced to leave the country after the local government asked Interpol officers to arrest him. But Vahidi was travelling with a diplomatic passport which granted him immunity, and he managed to leave before being apprehended.
