NEW YORK (Reuters) – U.S. stocks jumped at the open on Wednesday, with major indexes up more than 1 percent as a raft of solid earnings and outlooks bolstered optimism about the economic recovery.
The Dow Jones industrial average (.DJI) was up 153.72 points, or 1.25 percent, at 12,420.47. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index (.SPX) was up 15.75 points, or 1.20 percent, at 1,328.37. The Nasdaq Composite Index (.IXIC) was up 49.54 points, or 1.80 percent, at 2,794.51.
