Whale swims into Puerto Madero

The City neighbourhood of Puerto Madero was greeted by a suprise visitor today, when a whale appeared in the Wharf 4 section and caused many people to flock to witness the event.

Just after midday the marine mammal was spotted near the Argentine Yacht Club, its body emerging out of the water among the pleasure crafts moored in the exclusive zone. News immediately spread via social media with photos and videos appearing of the whale.

While members of the Coast Guard attempted to coax the mammal back to sea, experts sought to identify its species, eventually determining that it was a Minke Whale.

«It must be scared,» Pablo Fioramontti, a marine life expert, opined, adding that «it has clearly lost track of its group.»

«It is a strange situation. The animal must be about six metres long, probably a nursing infant, who has become separated from the herd.»
