The National Electoral Chamber (CNE) has urged companies that conduct political polls to present a technical data sheet of each investigation carried out.
The move attempts to regulate political surveys after the bad performance registered by polls during this year’s regional elections.
Judges Santiago Corcuera, Alberto Dalla Vía and Rodolfo Munné signed the resolution today, ten days ahead of the national PASO primary elections.
“We urge every company that carries out political surveys to present a data sheet on every single poll conducted,” the resolution reads, adding an Opinion Poll and Survey Register will be created by the CNE.
Polls performed badly during this year’s election. In the Buenos Aires city mayoral election, for instance, winner Horacio Rodríguez Larreta (PRO) was given an 8 to 10 point lead over runner-up Martín Lousteau (ECO), who ended up coming in second by only three points.
A national and heated debate arose after the election, as some analysts indicated polls could have influenced the outcome, disencouraging some potential Lousteau voters after seeing the candidate was falling far behind Larreta.
