Bus drivers’ conflict talks to resume on Friday

Labor Minister Carlos Tomada has met with representatives of the UTA transport union and bus drivers of the 60 line, after a new picket was staged at the Panamericana highway this morning.
The meeting, which will be resuming tomorrow, is an attempt to solve the ongoing conflict between the bus drivers and Monsa SA, which started a month ago.
Drivers accuse Monsa of firing 53 workers. Meanwhile, the firm denies the allegations, assuring no employee has been fired since January 1.
Workers of the 60 line have chosen to stage several pickets at the Panamericana highway, blocking access to the capital in rush hour. On Tuesday, protesters clashed violently with the police. Demonstrators and security officers were injured.
Later today, Cabinet Chief Aníbal Fernández said Argentina’s labor legislation was “broad enough” to have workers and employers sitting at the negotiating table to discuss the conflict, and questioned the nature of the dispute.
“It seems that the objectives of these protests are different, and I would not find it difficult to believe there could be a political background. I don’t have the elements now to say that with certainty,” he said.
