‘Blue’ dollar jumps 33 cents to 14.55 pesos

The US dollar was half a cent up today at 9.165 pesos in banks and foreign exchange agencies while the “blue” parallel dollar jumped 33 cents to 14.55 pesos in underground houses, according to ámbito.com, after climbing 11 cents on Friday.

The unofficial market, according to operators, was pushed by a greater demand due to the start of the winter holidays.

A move by investors to ‘dollarise’ portfolios was also accentuated by the tight PRO victory in the City elections, which was a setback to the presidential aspirations of candidate Mauricio Macri. Today’s rise was the biggest since November 12, when the currency rose 55 cents.

Over the past week the ‘Blue’ had leaped 60 cents and broken through the 14 peso barrier on Tuesday, a total of 4.4 percent up.

The blue chip rate also rose, closing 30 cents up to $13.45, with the stock market dollar soaring 38 cents to $13.72
