Doctors treating Foreign minister Héctor Timerman have revealed that the politician underwent an operation to remove a malignant tumour from his liver, stating that the procedure was a success.
The Austral hospital released an official statement this afternoon confirming that Timerman, who yesterday had revealed problems with his health while insisting he would not step down as minister, had been operated on in the facility located in Pilar, Buenos Aires province.
«On the present day the Foreign minister Héctor Timerman underwent a surgical procedure on a liver tumour which was successfully removed by doctors Gustavo Podestá and Pedro Ferraina. No other injuries to the liver were detected,» the missive explains.
The statement adds that Timerman would continue his convalescence in the intensive care ward of the hospital, with the next medical report scheduled to be released on July 15.
