Timerman slams ‘protectionism of developed nations’

Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman today affirmed that during his mandate he has always “condemned protectionism applied by developed nations, especially on the agricultural sector” and highlighted the need to “strengthen the aggregate demand as a solution for global economy.”

«Since the moment President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner appointed me I have always been involved in the G20 development and all the contributions we made were firmly clinged to our society’s values,” Timerman told assistants to “Argentina in the G20” seminar held today at the San Martín Palace.

“Our president and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are the only two heads of state who participated in the G20 since the beginning,” he added.
«Argentina has encouraged with conviction the need to strengthen the voice of developing countries, in line with their growing weigh in the global economy,” Timerman continued, recalling “in 2010 we participated in a mechanism to coordinate emerging economies.”

The minister said the G20 agenda has growed “to address different issues, such as energy, the fight against corruption, health, environment, development, social issues and employment, trade and migrations.”
