Army Chief César Milani, whose appointment stirred controversy among human rights organizations pointing fingers at him for his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity he would have committed during Argentina’s 1976-1983 dark years, presented his retirement “for strictly personal reasons.”
In a statement released today, the Army informed Milani was retiring “for strictly personal reasons.”
The forced disappearance of conscript Alberto Agapito Ledo in the province of Tucumán province in 1976 is not the only reason why Milani has been under the judicial spotlight.
Milani was also mentioned in a report conducted in the province of La Rioja for allegedly having taken part in the abduction of Alfredo Olivera, who was arrested on March 14, 1977, two days after his father was kidnapped.
