Aníbal Fernández presents Sabbatella as running mate

Cabinet Chief Aníbal Fernández has presented Martín Sabbatella, the current president of the AFSCA media watchdog, as his running mate in the ruling Victory Front (FpV) primary for governor of Buenos Aires province.

“We will try to govern the province from December 10th onwards,” said Fernández during a press conference held at Government’s House.

The Cabinet Chief stated he wanted a running mate with similar ideology, and consulted his decision with President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, who approved the call. Meanwhile, Sabbatella said he felt honored to be offered the position by the person Ms Kirchner chose for Cabinet Chief and said he also spoke to the head of state to discuss the proposal.

Sabbatella is the leader of the Nuevo Encuentro party. He was mayor of the Buenos Aires province suburb of Morón from 1999 to 2009, when he was elected National Deputy.

In 2012, he was appointed director of the Federal Authority on Audiovisual Communication Services (AFSCA), amid the conflict between the Federal Government and the Clarín Group over the anti-trust Media Law.

Yesterday, Lower House Speaker Julián Domínguez, Cabinet Chief Aníbal Fernández and La Matanza Mayor Fernando Espinoza were officially confirmed to compete against each other in the FpV primary for governor of Buenos Aires province.
