Teamsters reject 26% salary increase

The Argentine Federation of Truck Businesses (FADEAC) has offered teamsters a 26 percent wage rise, but the union lead by Hugo Moyano rejected the proposition.

FADEAC’s offer stated the increase would be paid in three installments, the last one in March 2016, but Moyano’s union insisted on a 35% salary increase.

This was the first meeting between teamsters and business representatives to negotiate wages in 2015. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Moyano said he would summon an assembly to discuss the union’s future actions.

This week, Moyano lead teamsters into a national strike together with the Blue and White CGT lead by Luis Barrionuevo and the CTA of Pablo Micheli. The opposition unionists protested the governments’ attitude towards this years wage talks and claimed for a reform in the income tax.

Economy Minister Axel Kicillof had said wage increases should not be above 27%, as price hikes have lowered and workers salaries have not been damaged by inflation rates. Opposition unions question Kicillof’s analysis of current Argentine economy and demand a higher increase.
