FIFAgate: Moreno Ocampo warns ‘if Burzaco is arrested in Europe, he will have to negotiate with US prosecutors’

Former prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Luis Moreno Ocampo today warned that if Alejandro Burzaco, CEO of Torneos y Competencias and partner of Clarín Group, is arrested in Europe will be immediately transferred to the United States to give testimony before the US Judiciary.

According to Ocampo, the Argentine citizen appears as an agent for AFA Argentine football association in the investigation opened by the US Justice Department into alleged corruption within the FIFA International football body.

«They identify Burzaco as the intermediary to channel funds for (Julio) Grondona. They say he does it through a travel agency, which has already been identified,” Ocampo added. “This makes it possible to investigate AFA, what happens there, its ramifications,” he added.

Ocampo stressed there is “an important point” which hasn’t been discussed yet in the media or in judicial offices. “It’s possible that the Argentines who were indicted may choose to stay in Argentina, they have that right. The problem is that Burzaco is in Europe, he is not in Argentina, and if he is arrested, he will be sent to the US and he will have to negotiate a deal.”
