AFIP: Tax revenues up 31.5% in May

Federal Public Revenues Administration (AFIP) chief Ricardo Echegaray has announced that tax incomes received by the entity rose to a total of 138.14 billion pesos in May, 31.5 percent up on the same period last year.

Echegaray revealed the latest revenue figures in a press conference held today, and highlighted record growth in income taken from income tax.

The official said that the state raised 44.92 billion pesos in May from the controversial levy. That number marks a new high and is up a massive 53.6 percent compared to May 2014. Echegaray explained that income tax «is the hardest to control and the easiest to evade,» adding that revenue from export rights was up just 12%, reflecting lower grain prices on the world market.

For the AFIP chief, speaking alongside Finance secretary Juan Carlos Pezoa, May 2015 was a highly successful month for the revenue agency.

It was also revealed during the conference that the entity will file charges against on-the-run Torneos CEO Alejandro Burzaco, accusing the businessman of evading taxes related to money implicated in the FIFA corruption scandal.

Burzaco is one of three Argentines currently indited by the US Justice Department on charges of bribery related to television rights for the Copa America competition. As of yet the head of the production company has failed to present himself before the Judiciary to answer those allegations.
