On the second day of the 48-hour strike staged by banking workers, the official dollar rate traded half a cent higher in banks and exchange agencies and closed at 8.995 pesos, getting closer to the 9-peso mark.
Meanwhile, the parallel rate, the so called «blue» sollar, ended steady at 12.72 pesos in underground houses, after an earlier two-cent drop. This way, the gap bewteen the official rate and the «blue» stands at 41.4 percent.
In addition, the blue chip swap rate decreased one cent to 11.69 pesos and the stock exchange rate jumped six cents at 11.58 pesos.
Public and private banks have closed their doors across the country due to a union strike over failed wage negotiations. Workers demand a 30 percent wage hike.
