The appearance of a Second World War bomb in the city of Colonia, Germany, forced about 20,000 people to leave their homes, in what is the biggest evacuation registered in this west german city since the war aftermath.
Authorities ordered to evacuate a 1 kilometre radio around the one tonne projectile to be able to desactivate it. There are 1,300 residents of a nursing and disabled home among the affected people who were taken to hospital.
The measure also forced schools in the area to close as well as the zoo of the city. According to a spokeman from local government, the bomb is expected to be desactivated in the afternoon.
It is frequent in Germany for Second World War projectiles that didn’t explode to keep on appearing.
Approximately 10,000 people had to leave their houses in January in Potsdam, Germany, due to an american bomb while in Britain the appareance of another one also forced the evacuation of the Borussia Dortmund Studium in February.
