US dollar higher; ‘blue’ rises to 12.73 pesos

Amid a banking strike over wage negotiations, the official dollar rate closed half a cent higher in banks and foreign exchange agencies of the city at 8.99 pesos.

On the first trading day of the week following yesterday’s public holiday to commemorate the May Revolution, the Central Bank continued with its policy of allowing ‘microdevaluations’ in the peso. Only electronic operations could be completed, due to the 48-hour banking strike which will disrupt operations until Thursday.

The parallel rate, the so called «blue» dollar, rose seven cents in underground houses to 12.72 pesos, according to ambito.com. The gap between the official and unofficial currencies stands at 41.6 percent.

Elsewhere in trading, the blue-chip exchange rate sank 13 cents to 11.71 pesos, a downward trend followed by the stock market dollar which slipped six cents to 11.56 pesos.
