Bank employees ratify Tuesday’s strike

Banking workers all around the country called for a strike on Tuesday that will palarise the financial activity, demanding a wage hike of 30 percent and protesting against «delays» in negotiations.

Bank Association Secretary General, Sergio Palazzo, ratified today the measure and clarified that the plan will continue as long as there is no agreement in sight.

Palazzo complained about the fact that “it has been more than 30 days since the wage contract expired” and the business sector “delays” the talks that seek to improve workers’salaries.

“There is no proposal neither from the public nor the private sector,” said Palazzo in statements to Radio Splendid and rejected the possibility of the Labour Ministry ordering the mandatory conciliation.

Regarding the wage increase workers demand, Palazzo explained that “last year´s inflation has surpassed 30 percent and that the salary settlement should be around that number.”
