Radical Santoro will be Recalde’s running mate in the City

Buenos Aires City candidate for mayor of the Victory Front (FpV) party Mariano Recalde has announced that Leandro Santoro, the leader of the pro-Radical Party (UCR) Los Irrompibles organization, is going to be his running mate in the upcoming general elections on July 5.

“He is a partner that comes from politics, that expresses the same values we all do, that defends what is public, the role of the State and everything we have been fighting for these past few decades,” Recalde stated. “He is a fellow party member that has not followed Ernesto Sanz or Elisa Carrió´s path,” he added during a rally held at the Buenos Aires University (UBA) Law School.

In mid April, Santoro was named by the government as Undersecretary for the Institutional Reform and Strengthening of Democracy.

“The challenge is entering the run-off, we are heading that way and we are confident that citizens (porteños) will see two projects in the city; the FpV and the PRO with their two versions,” asserted Recalde, considering PRO Party candidate Horacio Rodríguez Larreta and ECO´s Martín Lousteau both held right-wing positions.

“I would have liked my party to express the values I grew up with while being a member for 25 years of the UCR (instead of supporting) the most conservative parties,” Santoro pointed out. He also talked about “redeeming the principles of Radicalism and Alfonsinism” – alluding to emblematic leader of the UCR, Raúl Ricardo Alfonsín -, and to “recover the joy of politics in the city.”
