The bicameral committee investigating Argentine bank accounts in the Swiss branch of HSBC has asked the courts to force Cablevisión to appear before it, after the cable company once more failed to answer a summons to today’s hearing.
The decision was made during the latest session of the all-party group, which is analysing the systems used by HSBC Switzerland to enable tax evasion and capital flight from Argentina worth an estimated 3.5 billion dollars.
At the start of the meeting, president Roberto Feletti asserted that Cablevisión «refuses to come here, questioning the constitutionality of this committee,» and insisted once more on the need to go to the justice system to force the company to appear.
Cablevisión had previously sent a letter to the committee detailing its reasons for holding accounts in the Swiss branch of HSBC.
The committee also called ex-vice president of JP Morgan, Hernán Arbizu, as well as internal and external auditors from HSBC in order to give evidence.
Feletti revealed that an invitation to whistleblower Herve Falciani had been extended via the French embassy. «The Foreign Ministry is looking for a way for him to come to Argentina, since he faces an extradition order,» the president explained.
