Late penalty helps Quilmes to victory

Arsenal de Sarandí’s Primera División woes deepened as the club fell 1-0 at home to Quilmes, with the visitors converting a penalty in injury time to consign their rivals to a seventh defeat in 11 games this season.

An uninspiring game of football appeared destined to finish scoreless, as neither Arsenal nor Quilmes showed much sign of breaking the deadlock. In the third minute of injury time, however, an idiotic move from the Arse’s Danny Valencia gave the Cervecero a chance to break through.

The Colombian defender hacked down Alexis Canelo in the penalty area, and referee Sergio Pezzotta pointed to the spot. Valencia was sent off for his challenge, and Claudio Bieler converted past Esteban Andrada to give Quilmes three points, marking the third win of the campaign.

The visitors moved away from the foot of the table, jumping level in 19th with Temperley and Vélez Sarsfield on 12 points. Arsenal, meanwhile, stay joint-second to last, with only Nueva Chicago below them and Olimpo in the standings.
