Central Bank opens capital flight proceedings in HSBC cases

Central Bank president Alejandro Vanoli today appeared before the bicameral committee investigating tax evasion and capital flight involving the HSBC bank, where he asserted that 21 procedures had already begun for exchange infractions.

Vanoli was called to give evidence in the Lower House alongside Financial Entities superintendent Germán, and explained the measures taken by the Central Bank following the discovery of 4,040 Argentine accounts in HSBC’s Swiss subsidiary.

«When the AFIP brought this to our attention we began a wholesale supervision of HSBC and we still maintain a continuous presence in the bank,» Feldman added, affirming that «Irregularities in the register of international transfer to and from Argentina have been detected.»

The bank watchdog confirmed that «financial and exchange procedures have been carried out due to infractions in international transfer operations.»
