Uruguay coach Oscar Tábarez has singled out Argentina as the prime candidate for glory in this year’s Copa America, which will take place in Chile over the course of June and July.
Speaking to radio station El Espectador, the trainer who masterminded Uruguay’s triumph in the competition four years ago, knocking out hosts Argentina in the quarter-finals, admitted that the Albiceleste would start as favourites in the 2015 Copa.
«Argentina is the team which is potentially in the best shape,» Tábarez affirmed, adding that Brazil and hosts Chile would also be strong opponents. Speaking about his own team, the coach confessed that the suspended Barcelona striker Luis Suárez would be a crucial absentee.
«He is potentially in his best football form right now,» he considered.
«His potential is greater, he has grown in a team like Barcelona which is very rigid positionally and places him in a more reduced space on the pitch, to which Suárez has adapted without problems.»
«Now Luis can play in the forward line. He started off on the wing and then in the middle.»
The Copa America kicks off on June 11, with the final scheduled for July 4. Uruguay and Argentina find themselves in Group B alongside Jamaica and Paraguay, and will face off in La Serena on June 16 in a mouth-watering Rioplatense derby.
