‘Blue’ dollar drops 8 cents after Wednesday’s surge

Following Wednesday’s surge when greenbacks in the informal market climbed 28 cents (3.3 percent over the past four days), the so called “blue” dollar dropped eight cents to 12.72 pesos.

A lower demand for the American currency for saving purposes led to higher pressure on the parallel dollar with traders in the informal market taking the rate up yesterday.

Over the past four days the “blue” dollar had jumped 41 cents or 3.3 percent, leading the Central Bank to step up controls on informal market operations, expected to be intensified in the upcoming days.

Meanwhile, in Buenos Aires City main banks and foreign exchange offices, the American currency closed without changes, trading at 8.88 pesos. The gap between the two currencies narrowed slightly with the blue’s losses, finishing the day at 43.2 percent.
